RALEIGH, N.C. — Police were investigating Thursday night after a 23-year-old man's body was found on a Raleigh street.

Authorities said that officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Cross Street at about 5:45 p.m. and found LaQuan Cordarrelle Anderson.

Initially, residents said they thought there was just a person lying in the grass, but realized as they got closer that Anderson was dead.

Angela Anderson told WRAL News that she believes her son had been dead for several days.

“I was talking to detectives, trying to get a picture to file him missing,” she said.

Neighbors said there was a shooting Tuesday in the same area where LaQuan Anderson’s body was found. They said they heard gunfire Tuesday afternoon and again in the evening.

“[I’m] wondering what’s happening with my son, wondering why you would shoot him down like that, whoever it was,” Angela Anderson said.

LaQuan Anderson was the father of two boys, family members said.

Authorities were investigating Anderson's death as a homicide. Anybody with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-834-5347.
