Body found after fire rips through east Raleigh home

One person was killed early Wednesday when fire ripped through a home on Poole Road, Raleigh fire officials said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Firefighters battling an early morning blaze at a home on Poole Road discovered a body inside, authorities said Wednesday.

Raleigh police said an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the person, whose gender, name and age was not released.

Emergency crews responded to the home, which is at the intersection with Beverly Drive, at about 5:30 a.m. After extinguishing the flames, firefighters found the person dead inside and called police detectives.

Investigators said it appears the fire was a case of arson.

Poole Road was blocked at Beverly Drive for about three hours.
