Blaze heavily damages Chapel Hill home

The Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to the emergency call at 164 Kingston Drive about 9:45 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

Two residents and a dog escaped before emergency crews arrived, Assistant Fire Marshal Darryl Rimmer said. One of the residents reported a minor burn on his shoulder but refused medical attention.

The blaze caused $110,000 in damage to the structure and contents of the home, Rimmer said. The cause remains under investigation.

Orange County Emergency Services, South Orange Rescue Squad, Chapel Hill police and the Red Cross also responded to the scene.
