FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon in a wreck on All-American Freeway, police said.

A traffic officer patrolling All-American Freeway near Morganton Road at about 12:30 p.m. saw a motorcycle speeding toward Raeford Road, police said. The officer tried to stop the motorcyclist but ended the chase when the rider wouldn't slow down.

A short time later, the officer came upon the motorcycle after it wrecked on the All-American near Raeford Road. The motorcycle rear-ended a Nissan pickup truck, went out of control and landed in the median, police said.

Jayson S. Uppinghouse, 30, of 3533 Elizabeth Drive in Fayetteville, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The pickup driver, Willie Rouse, 78, of 155 Linwood Road in Fayetteville, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The inbound lanes of All-American Freeway were closed between Raeford and Cliffdale Roads for about two hours as police investigated the wreck and cleared the scene.
