Best New N.C. State Fair food

RALEIGH, N.C. — A trip to the N.C. State Fair always involves food and the Out and About team is determined to the find the best food each year. Here are the five new items you need to try when hitting the fairgrounds this year:

Fry Me to the Moon - This is available at the grandstand concession stand known for its deep fried candy bars. This item is a chocolate Moon Pie stuffed with Ho Hos, peanut butter cups and Oreos, then deep fried and topped with cream cheese, chocolate syrup and powdered sugar.

Bacon S'more - Bubba's Bacon is a new vendor this year (he is located across from the waterfall) and he is serving up quarter-pound maple syrup grilled bacon on a stick. For the s'more, the bacon is dipped in chocolate then dipped in marshmallow fluff and graham cracker crumbles.

Deep Fried Pizza - Available at the pizza booth across from the waterfall, this is a great twist on the traditional pizza. Basically, the crust is deep fried before being topped with sauce, cheese and other toppings.

Deep Fried Jalapeno Pimento Cheese and Bacon Hushpuppies with Sriracha Bang Bang Dipping Sauce - The Ragin Cajun booth near the grandstand offers this spicy treat. Big enough to share and make sure to get some extra Bang Bang dipping sauce.

High on the Hog sandwich - This creation from Granny's Country Kitchen is a fried pork chop, topped with barbecue, cole slaw, pickles and secret sauce. It is delicious! Granny's is next to the permanent church lunch stands.

And a shout out to Cookies and Milk, which added oatmeal raisin cookies to the menu this year. Get a bucket or cup of chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies at this stand next to the Turkey Shoot. They also have milk to go with those warm, fresh-baked cookies.
