Best Fair Food (not fried edition)

With the State Fair in full swing, we needed a break from all the fried, greasy goodness. Vendors at the fair offer plenty of non-fried options that are every bit as delicious. (Although we can't deny that the fried food at the fair is very creative!)

There are plenty of non-fried options to choose from, and these were some of our favorites.

Italian sausage with peppers and onions: one of my favorite fair entrees. For either lunch or dinner, this filling sub combines the spicy goodness of Italian sausage with the sweet taste of bell peppers and onions into a form of sandwich heaven.

Cotton candy is classic carnival fare, and the fair certainly delivers with this light and fluffy treat. Served for mobility, cotton candy at the fair is perfect for sharing while seeing the sights. The sweet stickiness reminds us of being kids again, and that makes it even more fun.
Frozen bananas seem like a real healthy alternative to most fair food ... until they are dipped in chocolate and covered with chopped peanuts and sprinkles. This frosty dessert is served on a stick, so you can walk along the Midway easily with it. The bananas freeze to a perfect consistency: not too hard and not mushy, and it's light and refreshing after heavy fried food.
Soft pretzels aren't associated specifically with the fair, but walking past the pretzel booth I knew I had to get one.
State Fair root beer float

Baked fresh and served hot, these doughy delights are good enough to eat with just salt or butter, although many other toppings are available (such as cinnamon sugar or cheese sauce).

A root beer float was a delicious and refreshing end to my day at the fair. The root beer cart (near Kiddieland) serves these treats with two scoops of rich vanilla ice cream and fill up the rest of the cup with bubbly root beer to make a smooth and creamy drink.

What are your favorite non-fried fair foods? Or do you stick to the fried delicacies?
