Best bets for the weekend: Bluegrass, Oktoberfest

RALEIGH, N.C. — Our picks for the weekend include a lot of family-friendly events. Here's a rundown:

IBMA World of Bluegrass - The big event this week is the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass in downtown Raleigh. There are two components to the festival and both have been moved indoors to Raleigh Convention Center due to rain.

Wide Open Bluegrass Main Stage - Shows are Friday and Saturday and include headliners Allison Krauss and Union Station and Steep Canyon Rangers (Friday) and Infamous Stringdusters and Sam Bush Band (Saturday). Tickets are required. Friday's show is sold out but there are tickets left for Saturday. Shows start at 11:30 a.m. and continue through the evening.

Wide Open Bluegrass Street Festival on Fayetteville Street- Enjoy live music, food, dancing and barbecue competitions at this event. Admission is free. Festivities get going around noon each day.

Late Night Bluegrass - If you want to enjoy more bluegrass, hit up Deep South, Lincoln Theatre, Tir na Nog, Bittersweet, Common 414, Paddy O' Beers, The Oxford and Carolina Ale House on Glenwood Avenue for "Late Night Bluegrass" concerts from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Triangle Oktoberfest - Live music, food and an authentic biergarten highlight this event at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary Saturday and Sunday. There will also be Weiner dog races and a special section for children's activities. Single day adult tickets are $20 for Saturday and $15 for Sunday. Organizers say the event will go on rain or shine. There will be an oversized tent and many ponchos. You can also bring in umbrellas.

Movies - Go to Lafayette Village Friday night and enjoy a free movie and popcorn on the lawn. Bring a blanket and chairs and enjoy "Teen Wolf" this week starting at 7 p.m.

Raleigh Irish Music Festival - Irish music and dancing will be taking place at this free festival in downtown Raleigh's Moore Square Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cameron Village Blues Series - Enjoy live music from Mysti Mayhem at Tazza Kitchen in Cameron Village in Raleigh from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Buddy Guy - See this blues legend at UNC Chapel Hill's Memorial Hall Saturday night.

Lucinda Williams - The Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter plays UNC Chapel Hill's Memorial Hall Friday night.

Chick Corea and Béla Fleck - See the master songwriters, musicians and band leaders at Carolina Theatre of Durham Sunday night.

Bill Leslie - Catch WRAL's very own Bill Leslie at Quail Ridge Books and Music in Raleigh on Sunday for the release of his new album and a mini concert. The fun starts at 4 p.m.

Fox 50 Family Fest - This free annual event planned for Saturday was canceled. The annual duck race at the fest might not happen but you can still support the Ronald McDonald Houses of Raleigh and Durham! Your purchase of a $10 duck, sponsors a night’s stay for a family with a seriously ill child staying at the Ronald McDonald Houses in Raleigh & Durham. More detaills can be found at Fox 50.

Screwtape Letters - See C.S. Lewis' brilliant novel on stage at Fletcher Opera Theater in downtown Raleigh this weekend.

Beautiful - The Carole King musical wraps up its run at DPAC this weekend.

Jimmie Walker - The actor best known as J.J. on "Good Times" will bring his standup act to Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh Thursday through Saturday.

Nephew Tommy - Thomas "Nephew Tommy" Miles, co-host of the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, will bring his humor to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Saturday night.

Aviator Festival - Aviator Brewing Company will host its Festival of Barrels Saturday starting at 3 p.m. Try several barrel aged beers, tours and food from Olio and Aceto food truck.

Carrboro Peppers - The Carrboro Farmers Market will be celebrating local peppers Saturday with samples, Latin music and more fun starting at 8:30 a.m.
