BENSON, N.C. — A Benson woman faces charges following a Valentine's Day argument in which she allegedly threw bleach into her ex-boyfriend's eyes.

Brandy Latisha Ruiz, 28, of 7 Coats Circle, was arrested Saturday on charges of assault inflicting seriously bodily injury, throwing acid or alkali and breaking and entering following the spat.

According to a police report, Gustavo Rojo-Gonzalez told an officer that Ruiz broke into his home, grabbed a bottle of bleach, threw it on his clothes and in his face and then threw his cellphone in the toilet.

The officer noted in the report that when he arrived around 9:45 p.m., he could smell bleach on the floor and on Rojo-Gonzalez, who was unable to see.

Ruiz told the officer that the door to Rojo-Gonzalez's home was open and that they were arguing because she did not want him to go to a club. According to the police report, she said she only threw bleach on his clothes and that he rubbed his face after touching them.

Rojo-Gonzalez received treatment at a local hospital. Ruiz, meanwhile, was being held without bond Wednesday in the Johnston County jail.
