Benefit planned for local mom killed on the way to give birth
The family of a woman killed in a wreck while on her way to give birth to her first child is holding a benefit this weekend for a scholarship in her honor.
Posted — UpdatedMegan Riggans, 22, died Sept. 2 when the car she and her husband were traveling in hydroplaned off a rain-soaked road.
Riggans was rushed to a local hospital where doctors delivered a baby boy, Will. She died before she ever got to hold him.
Will died 10 days later.
A fundraiser with food and music is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Big Barn Convention Center, 388 Ja-Max Drive in Hillsborough.
Riggans, her family says, was a farm girl who was involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America and had a passion for showing cattle.
The only thing she loved more, the family says, was her family and that she was going to be a mother.
