Before the story airs: This is one story that could save your life

What if I told you there is a disease that has high probability of causing you to have a heart attack or stroke? This disease is also a leading cause of blindness and kidney failure. It causes thousands of people to have toe, foot and leg amputations each year, and it is highly preventable.

What if I told you there is a disease that has high probability of causing you to have a heart attack or stroke? This disease is also a leading cause of blindness and kidney failure. It causes thousands of people to have toe, foot and leg amputations each year, and it is highly preventable.

The disease is diabetes. One UNC professor of medicine called it "metabolic cancer – a disease that can eat you alive." About 29 million Americans already have diabetes and approximately 86 million are on the brink of developing it.

Join me for my Health Team report on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. I'll tell you how diabetes could kill or disable you or a family member. Americans have a 30 to 50 percent chance of developing diabetes sometime during their life. What are the risk factors? We'll have a diabetes quiz for you to take. This is one story that could save your life.
