RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina State Fair officials closed the bathrooms at Dorton Arena for a few hours Saturday in order to fix a broken water main on the east side of the building.

It wasn't clear what caused the break, but officials reopened the bathrooms at about 2:30 p.m.

Dorton Arena is located on the south side of the State Fairgrounds near Hillsborough Street.

Country artist Joe Nichols is scheduled to perform at Dorton Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Thousands visited the State Fairgrounds in the first two days of festivities. More than 42,000 passed through the gates on Thursday, and better than 72,700 turned out on Friday, the first full day of the fair.

Friday's big crowd was the third biggest on the fair's first Friday since 1986, and it beat last year's mark by more than 5,000.

Gates open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and midnight Thursday to Saturday. Admission ticket prices are $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children under age 5 and adults over age 65.
