Bank robbery puts three Granville schools on lockdown
South Granville High, G.C. Hawley Middle School and Creedmoor Elementary were locked down as a precaution after a bank robbery nearby.
Posted — UpdatedCreedmoor Police Chief Tim Benware said someone robbed the RBC Bank branch at 608 N. Main St. just before 10:30 a.m.
Benware said the suspect showed a small handgun and ordered bank personnel to fill garbage bags with cash. He fled the scene in a maroon Chevrolet Impala, according to police.
Spokesman Stan Winborn said that vehicle was abandoned on Brassfield Road near G.C. Hawley Middle School.
The school district locked down the school, along with South Granville High School and Creedmoor Elementary School as a precaution. Winborn said there was no reason to think students were ever in danger.
The lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m.
