VASS, N.C. — A bank robbery in Moore County led indirectly to an officer-involved collision in Lee County Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Deputy Randall Butler, of the Lee County Sheriff's Office, said a man allegedly robbed the First Bank in Vass, at 200 Seaboard St.

A Lee County deputy heard the call and spotted a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle, Butler said. When the deputy stopped the car, he realized the driver did not match the description of the alleged bank robber.

A second Lee County deputy, traveling to assist the first, wrecked his car on N.C. Highway 87 near Olivia Road.
