Award-winning Gustafer Yellowgold stops in Carrboro this week
Gustafer, a small, yellow, cone-headed fellow from the sun, drops in to The ArtCenter in Carrboro on Saturday for a mellow, family-friendly concert.
Posted — UpdatedYellowgold, a small, yellow, cone-headed fellow who dropped to Earth from the sun, is an animated character in Taylor's multimedia performance that combines his original animation and live music in what he calls a "musical moving storybook."
I've taken my older daughter to several concerts and we are big fans of Gustafer. Taylor plays his very mellow and catchy music in front of a screen that projects illustrations of the song. I know it sounds unusual, but it's really entertaining. Taylor takes you into Gustafer's imaginary world, which includes his friend Forrest Applecrumbie, a flightless pterodactyl, his pet eel Slim and pet dragon Asparagus.
The music appeals to preschoolers and elementary school-aged kids, in large part, because they can follow the song's story on the screen. But tweens and teens like the indie vibe of it all too. Taylor has collaborated with Wilco, Lisa Loeb and others.
