Authorities Seek Owner of Hit-and-Run Vehicle

Dayna Wiggs, 25, of Goldsboro, was crossing U.S. Highway 70 at Edwards Road shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle, authorities said. Wiggs was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where she was listed in critical condition.

Authorities responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle Sunday night on Princeton-Kenly Road and located a 1997 Chevrolet minivan. The vehicle had front-end damage, and fabric found on the exterior was determined to be similar to the clothing Wiggs was wearing when she was struck, authorities said.

Police are looking for the minivan's owner, Vela Marcelo Mendoza, 44, of 1205 N. Pollock St. in Selma. Police would not say whether Mendoza was a suspect in the hit-and-run, but they would like to talk with him.
