RALEIGH, N.C. — State and local authorities were searching Monday for a juvenile who didn't return to a detention center in Butner after spending the holiday weekend at home.

The juvenile, identified only as Joshua S., spent the weekend in Wake County and was supposed to return to the C.A. Dillon Youth Development Center Sunday afternoon. Authorities said he was last seen in the Sandy Forks Road area of north Raleigh at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities with the state Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention said they are concerned about the public's safety because of the unpredictable behavior of escaped juveniles.

Anyone who knows of Joshua's whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement officers.
