ArtsCenter lines up independent kids rock series
Starting next month, the monthly series in Carrboro includes Farmer Jason, Baron Von Rumblebuss, Lunch Money and Recess Monkey.
Posted — UpdatedThe ArtsCenter in Carrboro has lined up a great series of rock concerts for kids and parents, featuring some top-rated independent performers.
They have exposed me and many other parents around here to some amazing artists for kids and families who don't have shows on the Disney channel or songs in regular rotation on the radio. (Thank you Brooke and everybody else at The ArtsCenter!).
The monthly series begins next month and continues through July. Tickets for all of the concerts are on sale now.
Here's what's on the schedule:
- 11 a.m., April 28. Farmer Jason, with his new CD "Nature Jams," performs in celebration of Earth Day. Farmer Jason is the creation of Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers. In a previous life (before kids), he was one of the pioneers of modern Americana and alt-country genres. He created Farmer Jason in 2002 and his new CD brings in his friends Mike Mills of REM, Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick, Tommy Ramone and more. Tickets are $7 for youth and $9 for adults. Kids 2 and under are admitted free. A family four pack is $28. Best for preschoolers to third graders.
- 11 a.m., May 19. Durham favorite Baron Von Rumblebuss and Redd Zeppelin conjures the spirit of Saturday morning and cloaks it in songs drenched with crunchy guitars and pounding drums. Earth-types often cite similarities to the power and melody of artists like Big Star, the Who, Elvis Costello and XTC. Known for mixing humor with kids’ music that rocks (and maybe throwing in a little robot dancing), Baron Von Rumblebuss and his band Redd Zeppelin have performed many packed shows in the Triangle area. Tickets are $7 for youth and $9 for adults. Kids 2 and under are admitted free. A family four pack is $28. Best for preschoolers to third graders.
- 11 a.m., June 16. The acclaimed high-energy South Carolina-based trio, Lunch Money, has rocked
