ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday.

Sean Christopher White, 36, of Tarboro, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Edgecombe County jail without bond.

Police responding to the American Legion Marshall Pittman Post No. 173, at 401 Madison St., around 2:15 a.m. Sunday found Christopher Lorenzo Curtis, 40, outside the business. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

George Curtis said Monday that his brother was out with friends and was trying to stop a fight inside the American Legion post when he was shot.

Chris Curtis was an Army veteran, but American Legion members said he had no connection to their organization.

His family said he was a devoted father of three children, ages 16, 11 and 10.

Investigators are trying to find other possible witnesses to the crime. Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
