Armed robbery prompts Fayetteville man to move out of state

The 86-year-old heard a loud noise at the back door of his Haymount apartment on Jan. 2. When he opened it to see what it was, three men barged in to rob him.

“I was pushed down on the floor and against the cabinet, and I said, ‘What do you want? I haven’t got anything,’” Webb recalled. “He looked me close in the face – we were probably 5 inches apart at most – and he said, ‘We want money.’”

Webb said one man held him down while the other two ransacked his apartment looking for cash. He said the men were armed with what like liked blue tire irons.

"One of them would occasionally brush my hair with the tire iron as if to say, ‘We’re still here. You know that, don’t you?’” he said.

Webb suffered a cut on his right ear and bruises on his face, neck and hands. The suspects stole his wallet, which had a small amount of cash.

Webb said he’s overwhelmed by the giant get-well card and gifts his neighbors gave him and his dog, a corgi.

“The goodies they sent for me and the dog, I cannot imagine it,” he said.

Webb was able to give police a description of one of the suspects, and investigators released a sketch.
