You don't have a lot of time, but it's not too late for sixth and seventh-grade girls to apply for the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' Girls in Science Connect: Nature program.

The eight-week series is designed for girls with an ability and strong interest in sciences, especially natural sciences. The goal is to engage girls in hands-on science experiences, according to the museum's website. Participants will meet female scientists, go behind the scenes at the museum and go out in the field. The next session runs from January to March. It sounds pretty amazing.

The program can accept up to 20 girls from Wake or surrounding counties. Students must be recommended by a current or previous science teacher. Homeschool students must get a recommendation from an unrelated adult. Girls meet weekly from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There's also an all-day trip in March.

The cost is $150. The deadline is 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7. The museum's website has much more information and application details.
