Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar is offering a 25 percent discount for its Kids Helping Kids Triathlon in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

To get the deal, participants must sign up on Thursday, Sept. 4, or Friday, Sept. 5, of this week. Kids age seven to 12 are invited to run, swim and bike to raise money in the fight against children's cancers. The event is Oct. 12 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Proceeds will benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research to fund pediatric cancer research at Duke Children’s Hospital.

To get the  deal, go to the Kids Helping Kids website starting at 12:01 a.m., Sept. 4, through Sept. 5 at midnight and enter the discount code "25OFF" during checkout. Through Sept. 30, it costs between $30 and $40 to register.

Depending on their age, participants swim between 50 yards and 200 yards; bike between 1.4 miles and 3.9 miles; and run .6 miles and 1.4 miles. Children of all experience levels are invited to register for this fun event. The day also includes a fun zone with games and other activities.

It's hosted by Apple Gold Group, one of the largest franchisees of Applebee’s in the world with 52 restaurants in North Carolina, and is presented by O2 Fitness, with 12 locations throughout the greater Triangle area and Wilmington.

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is observed every September.
