<b>APEX, N.C.</b> — The Apex Police Department is now using text messaging to help solve crimes.

The police department said Wednesday that it has started a program called “Text a Tip” as another way for the public to provide anonymous tips about crimes and criminal activity.

While anonymous, it does allow for two-way communication between police and the tipster without ever revealing any identifying information or contact information.

To text a tip, send the keyword “APEXPD” to 847411 (TIP411).

Tips can be submitted online or by calling the Apex Police Department at 919-362-8661.
