An Apex police officer who was arrested for assault has now been fired.

<b>APEX, N.C.</b> — An Apex police officer who was arrested for assault has now been fired.

Captain Eric Buchanan is charged with assault on a female after what investigators call a domestic situation that occurred on April 1.

Apex police said Buchanan's firing is effective immediately.

In a statement the Apex Police Chief said "We take these matters seriously, and will do our due diligence to ensure we gather all information available related to this incident."

Buchanan is currently out of jail after posting bail.
