Apex man pleads guilty in crash that killed Marine
An Apex man pleaded guilty Monday to a crash last year that killed a Camp Lejeune Marine.

Jackson Davies, 20, was sentenced to 64 to 89 month in prison after pleading guilty to felony death by vehicle and voluntary manslaughter. A second sentence of 64 to 89 months in prison was suspended to five years on probation.
Police said last year that Davis was driving on Rose Avenue in Wilmington on Feb. 19, 2014, when his car hit and killed Cory Lee Reese, 22, near Wrightsville Avenue. The car then hit a tree and a utility pole.
According to the Wilmington Star-News, prosecutors said Davies and Reese got into an altercation at party, and Reese and his friends surrounded Davies' car as he tried to leave. Davies ran into Reese, who hung onto the hood of the car until it slammed into a tree at 60 mph, the newspaper quoted the prosecutor as saying.
Davies had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent, which is more than twice the limit at which a driver is considered impaired under North Carolina law.
