ANGIER, N.C. — A 23-year-old man died after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree and caught fire south of Angier shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, state troopers said.

Troopers said that Richard Ray Winders crossed the center line to pass a vehicle in the 1400 block Chalybeate Springs Road. When Winders came back into the eastbound lane, his vehicle ran off the road and struck a guard rail and a tree. His vehicle caught on fire.

Troopers said that alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
