Angier man killed in scuffle with officers

An Angier man was killed Sunday morning in a scuffle with officers responding to a domestic disturbance, police said Monday.

ANGIER, N.C. — An Angier man was killed Sunday morning in a scuffle with officers responding to a domestic disturbance, police said Monday.

Jose Espindola was shot during the scuffle, which occurred at about 11:30 a.m. inside an apartment at 150 Coats Circle, police said.

Espindola, 22, of 45 Crestview Drive, had outstanding warrants for first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, assault on a child under 12, assault on female, communicating threats and injury to real property, police said.

The name of the Angier officer involved in the shooting hasn't been released. Police said he has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of a review by the State Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure.
