American Tobacco's annual summer festival, On the Lawn, unveiled its music and movie lineup Wednesday.

American Tobacco's annual summer festival, On the Lawn, unveiled its music and movie lineup Wednesday.

The free series, which runs April 27 to Oct. 5, includes:

  • Back Porch Music on the Lawn, which will feature acts from the legendary Red Clay Ramblers to developing superstars The Old Ceremony
  • Movies on the Lawn, a series of music-themed documentaries selected by the Full Frame Film Festival
  • Pops for Pops on Father’s Day
  • Three WNCU Jazz on the Lawn concerts
  • Special performance by the American Dance Festival

On the Lawn’s schedule:

  • April 27 - Erynn Marshall & Carl Jones
  • May 4 - NCCU Jazz Ensemble
  • May 11 - Music Makers Relief Foundation Blues Revue
  • May 18 - Tony Rice Unit
  • June 1 - Movies on the Lawn (tbd)

  • June 17 - Pops for Pop
  • July 4 - John Brown & the Groove Shop Band

“On the Lawn is the complete spring and summer get away, right here in your own backyard,” said Michael Goodmon, vice president of real estate for Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns American Tobacco and WRAL-TV. “As we begin construction on our new Diamond View III building, we look forward to serving even more neighbors and fans with great entertainment and opportunities to plug into this dynamic community.”

On the Lawn’s presenting sponsor is Bull City BUCK$, an app presented by University Ford and Kia designed to help people explore and enjoy Durham. The loyalty/rewards program will feature a number of ways to scan QR codes and earn points to cash in at area hot spots.

On the Lawn’s complete roster of sponsors also includes American Tobacco, FOX 50, Full Frame, WNCU-FM, WRAL.com, WUNC-FM and The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham.
