BENSON, N.C. — A Cape Fear Valley Health System ambulance slammed into a parked car Wednesday morning on an Interstate 40 exit ramp, authorities said.

The wreck occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on the eastbound I-40 ramp to northbound Interstate 95 in Johnston County. The ambulance ran off the road and hit the parked car, authorities said.

No one was in the parked car, and the ambulance wasn't carrying any patients at the time.

The ambulance driver was taken to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, and a second paramedic in the ambulance was taken to WakeMed. There was no word Wednesday morning on the severity of their injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the case.
