DURHAM, N.C. — The Alston Avenue widening project continues, and now, crews have closed part of it to get ready for next phase.
Southbound Alston is closed from Taylor to Hopkins streets for the next two weeks. It's to complete sewer work as part of the widening project.
Expect a detour that uses Liberty, Elizabeth and Main streets.
Right now, construction is wrapping up on the section of Alston from Main to Holloway.
Sidewalks, pavement markings and parking lanes should be finished in October.
The focus then shifts to the area south of Main Street, between Angier Avenue and Gann Street.
They will need to build a new railroad bridge for that section.
It should be finished in November of 2022.
