Alan Jackson, Old Crow Medicine Show lead MerleFest 2014 lineup

The annual festival celebrates the memory of musician Eddy Merle Watson, son of American music icon Doc Watson.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Alan Jackson and Merle Haggard are two of the artists playing this year's Merlefest, a four-day music festival on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro. 
The annual festival, which celebrates the memory of musician Eddy Merle Watson, son of American music icon Doc Watson, kicks off Thursday. 

There will be more than 130 arts performing on 13 stages through Sunday. 

In addition to Jackson and Haggard, other notable performers this year include Steep Canyon Rangers, Old Crow Medicine Show and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. 

Friday's highlights include a BanjoRama featuring an all-star collaboration of banjo players. 

As with previous years, the Hillside Album Hour and the Midnight Jam will happen on Saturday. Festival favorites Scythian will once again host. It will feature Keller Williams, Nora Jane Struthers and The Party Line, Peter Rowan, Frank Solivan, Donna the Buffalo and more. A separate ticket is required for this show.
