Five people sought after student shot near NCCU
North Carolina Central University police were searching Monday for five people in connection with a shooting near campus late Sunday that wounded one student.

Sophomore Marquez Brinkley said he heard about eight shots fired.
The wounded student, a 19-year-old sophomore whose name wasn't released, was treated at a local hospital and released Monday morning.
N.C, Central police put the campus on lockdown at about 11 p.m. but lifted the alert about a half hour later.
The alert indicated an "active shooter" situation on campus, which Police Chief Willie Bell said Monday was inaccurate. He said it wasn't a mistake, however, and that his investigators wanted to err on the side of caution until they could get to the scene of the shooting and determine what exactly happened.
Sophomore Chelsea Washington said she went "into panic mode" during the alert.
"It was definitely nerve-wracking. It caught me off guard. I’d just gotten back to my dorm room, and I heard the alarm system going off," Washington said.
University officials said the shooting wouldn't affect classes or homecoming week activities.
