FBI called to assist with investigation into 5 bank robberies in the Triangle
North Carolina State University Police connected a car fire near Centennial Campus Tuesday afternoon to a series of bank robberies - two in Raleigh, one in Cary and another in Morrisville - reported earlier in the day.
Posted — UpdatedOfficials also said on Wednesday they determined the same group of men were responsible for robbing a Wells Fargo in Raleigh on Friday.
"[There is] nothing to worry about for the community, no evidence of anything other than bank robbers at this time," said Capt. Tim Tomczak of the Raleigh Police Department.
A helicopter from the state Highway Patrol and K-9 officers on the ground participated in the search, which included the woods behind the apartment complex.
WRAL News has reached out for a description of the suspect and surveillance photos or videos, but authorities said they could not provide that information to the public yet.
Four robberies in the Triangle in one day
Just before noon, police in Morrisville were called to the First Horizon Bank at 9632 Chapel Hill Road to investigate a bank robbery where thieves made off with an undetermined amount of money.
Raleigh police responded to a robbery report at a branch of Wells Fargo bank at 2005 Clark Ave., in the city's Village District, around 12:30 p.m.
Fifteen minutes later and two miles away, another robbery was reported, at Wells Fargo's branch at 2016 Fairview Road.
A little bit after 1 p.m., a Cary Wells Fargo, at 305 Colonades Way, was reported to have been robbed. Cary police said that someone demanded money but did not show a weapon.
By 1:46 p.m., the burned car linked to all four robberies was located in Raleigh.
It was not immediately clear how much money the men got away with.
No injuries were reported as a result of either the robberies or the car crash.
