DURHAM, N.C. — An 8-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Durham Saturday night, authorities said.
According to investigators, the child was hit while riding near the intersection of Briggs Avenue and Hart Street.

Latia Summerlin saw the crash and said the child flew in the air.

"He hit him and then the car sped up and then he flew off the bike and ended up all the way over there where the mailbox was," she said.

The boy was taken to Duke hospital where he is expected to be OK. The 8-year-old suffered a few broken bones including a broken femur and fibula.
Authorities said they are looking for the vehicle and that no suspects have been taken into custody.
