Posted — UpdatedJanet Debord, was reported missing around 8 p.m. Friday from North Carolina Sunrise Assisted Living Center, 615 Spring Forest Road. A Raleigh police spokesman said Debord was located near Millbrook High School just before 10 a.m. Saturday.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Debord, 75, because she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
"It's supposed to be a secure facility," her son, Dennis Debord, said.
His mother wears an "indicator" on her wrist used to track her movements, but it has a limited range and she must have gone beyond that distance, he said.
Police took Janet Debord to Duke Health Raleigh for a medical evaluation.
Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
