Marker finally installed at teen's grave

After 5 on Your Side got involved, a Garner man finally got the marker for his late grandson that he ordered from a Durham company.

GARNER, N.C. — A man who ordered a marker more than four months ago says he's relieved to finally see it on his 18-year-old grandson's grave.

Until a few weeks ago, the only thing pointing out the grave of Alex Bryant, who was killed in a car crash in June, was a laminated photo taped to a wooden stick.

Alex's grandfather, Roy Bryant, paid a $975 deposit in September to J&P Memorials in Durham for the marker which was supposed to installed within six to eight weeks.

But J&P owner Joseph Parker never delivered it, despite repeated calls that Bryant says were met with excuses.

That's when Bryant called 5 on Your Side.

He was one of five people who complained to WRAL News about problems getting headstones they ordered from Parker.

Parker said that he got backed up and that he would get the situation corrected.

"After you contacted him, he did start to call me," Bryant said.

Soon after, a granite and bronze memorial was installed at Alex's grave. Three other cases have also been resolved.

"It's really sad that he does quality work, but I couldn't recommend him, because I wouldn't want anybody else to go through what I had to go through," Bryant said.

Bryant says he is thankful that he now has a proper tribute to Alex.

"I just felt like I was cheating him, or something," he said. " I just had that feeling until we got it in there. I feel good (now)."
