RALEIGH, N.C. — After a decade of operation in the Triangle, Iatria Day Spa is going out of business. All three locations are closing and 55 employees are out of a job.

A sign on the front door of the Cary location explained the spa is "the most recent victim in this difficult economy" that brought a "sales hit" they "could not overcome."

Customers with memberships and gift certificates called Five On Your Side, worried that those investments would be worthless.

Roi Parker, owner of R.O.I. Salon in Cameron Village and a friend of Iatria owners Dave and Erika Mangrum, stepped up to cover those responsibilities.

His salon will honor Iatria certificates dollar for dollar.

“As long as clients will be patient we will accommodate every single gift certificate that is outstanding with the spa," Parker said.

“I think it's very important to do this for the community. In sad times, I think this could put a little smile back on the faces when they go to the salon and can no longer get in,” he added.

Parker said clients holding gift certificates can call the salon at 919-833-2577 and ask for him personally to schedule an appointment.

There is one caveat – R.O.I. Salon does not do massages, so customers have to apply gift certificates to hair, nail and skin care services.

Customers with "prepaid plans" for services from Iatria are in a different situation. They will likely have to file a claim with the bankruptcy court.
