RALEIGH, N.C. — Many of us are looking for ways to save money these days. Some of the best deals can come when you combine coupons with sales. But who has the time to get all that together? That is where Dan Griffin's Web site – SavvyDollar.org – can help.

“It's always been my mission to go find the best deal on something,” said Griffin.

Griffin said he sees using coupons like playing a card game.

“It is when do you play that card to be the most strategically beneficial? Do you play it now and get it for face value? Do you get it for doubles? Do you wait for triple coupons? Do you buy the store brand instead?” Griffin said of questions asked about coupons.

Since not everyone has the time, or inclination, to figure all this out, Griffin started SavvyDollar.org. He launched it a year and a half ago. It already has 6,000 subscribers; most of them from the Triangle area. The subscribers also share information about bargains.

“It is people who are posting something that says, ‘Here's what I got. Here's the deal that I found.’ And then other people are going out and getting the same deal,” Griffin said.

The Web site is divided into "deal" categories such as: grocery stores, drug stores and big-box stores.

“So it takes a lot of the work out of it. If you're doing this by yourself, you have to go, ‘What is on sale? What coupons do I have? Okay, well I can save a dollar here and a dollar there.’ But if there are other people out there sharing tips … then it makes it a lot easier,” Griffin said.

If you are an avid couponer, you will enjoy the Web site as you will be among your peers, Griffin said.

Among the deals currently on SavvyDollar.org, a “super doubles” offer from Harris Teeter this week. The store is doubling coupons up to $1.98 face value. So a $1.50 coupon is worth $3.00 this week, Griffin said. That can add up to real savings.
