Search For Unclaimed Money, Property In N.C.
Nelson and Barbara Bunn got a call when Five On Your Side learned that the couple had $4,500 in unclaimed cash being held by the state treasurer.
"We were some kind of happy. That was great news," said Barbara Bunn.
"We were elated," said Nelson Bunn.
When Five On Your Side called, the couple had a lot of questions about what the money was or where it was coming from. Some of those questions were answered when they got the paperwork.
"When it showed the company name, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, that's the stock we have from my former employer,'" Barbara said.
However, Barbara said she still had one question about the money.
"I don't know why they were not able to get in touch with us because we've lived at this same address for more than 20 years," she said.
Many companies do not have to track down the rightful owners of unclaimed cash. They are only required to turn the money over to the state, which is easier for them to do.
