The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday issued a recall for 250,000 Maytag and 20,000 Samsung front-loading washing machines.

Water can leak onto electrical connections, which could pose a fire hazard, officials said. The two manufacturers reported a total of six incidents in which a circuit board ignited.

The machines were sold between April 2005 and last August.

Customers should contact the manufacturers to find out how to get a free repair.
