Online Furniture Company Named In Lawsuit

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's attorney general on Wednesday

filed suit

against an online furniture company and its owners.

Part of the suit accuses the online company -- N.C. Furniture Buy Direct, now known as N.C. Furniture World -- of unfair and deceptive trade practices, saying the company collected money for orders, but in some cases did not place them for up to three months. Delivery had been promised in four to six weeks, the state alleged.

More than 300 consumers complained they paid for furniture they did not get.

The suit, which also names the company's owners, Darrell Buck and Russell Buck, says the company did not tell customers about the delays. When some inquired, they said orders had been lost and blamed manufacturers.

As part of the suit, the state wants all the contracts canceled and the money turned over so that customers can be reimbursed.
