3-year-old girl injured in hit-and-run; man arrested

Rocky Mount police charged a man with hit-and-run Wednesday after he came back to an intersection where they said his car struck a 3-year-old girl two hours earlier.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police charged a man with hit-and-run Wednesday after he came back to an intersection where they said his car struck a 3-year-old girl two hours earlier.

An unidentified person called Rocky Mount 911 Dispatch at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday to report a hit-and-run near the intersection of Barnes Street and Cherry Street.

Emergency crews took the 3-year-old girl to Nash General Hospital and later flew her to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where she was believed to be in critical condition.

Authorities did not release her name.

Police charged Emmanuel Coley, 19, with felony hit-and-run and driving without an operator’s license after he returned to the scene of the crash, authorities said.

Police held Coley in the Edgecombe County Jail under $10,000 bond.
