3-Vehicle Accident Creates I-440 Traffic Delays
Some motorists had a slow commute to work Thursday after a three-vehicle accident on the Interstate 440 Outer Beltline.
Posted — UpdatedAuthorities said the accident occurred at 7:54 a.m. near the Lake Boone Trail exit.
Police said a 2006 Pontiac passenger car was slowing for traffic in the exit lane, while the driver of a 2005 Ford sport-utility vehicle in the right lane prepared to merge.
Christopher Fogg, 43, of 111 Southwood Drive, driving a 2007 Chevrolet truck in the right lane, failed to reduce speed, said police.
The truck struck the SUV, causing a chain reaction in which the SUV and Pontiac hit each other several times. According to a witness, the Pontiac overturned during the collision but came to rest on all four tires.
The driver of the SUV, Howard Lowdermilk, 59, of 4825 Hollenden Drive, was hurt, police said.
Police cited Fogg in the accident report and issued him a ticket.
Both the SUV and Pontiac had to be towed from the scene, according to the accident report.
