ANGIER, N.C. — In a unanimous vote on Friday, the city of Minneapolis agreed to a $27 million settlement with George Floyd's family.

There have been discussions about creating a George Floyd Center in Fayetteville, where he was born, and also one near Shaw University in Raleigh.

Although the talks are preliminary, family members said they're focused on keeping Floyd's memory a live.

"No life can be replaced by a settlement, period," said Floyd's cousin Rev. Brian Davis. "It will help the kids and the family."

Davis said he's been keeping up with every development and he understands this was a milestone agreement.

"We are grateful for every victory but it means nothing in terms of life," said Davis.

Family members said Floyd's life is what they want people to remember.

Already, $500,000 of the settlement will go toward helping to rebuild the intersection where Floyd died. David said he believes other projects will come out of Friday's settlement announcement.

"This is going to help with facilities, parks and even programs and help eradicate poverty," he added.
