Broadway Series South presents shows at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh. Many of their shows are family friendly, depending on the age of your child.

For families, this season features "Shrek the Musical" in later November and early December and "Scooby Doo! Live" in January.

Here are the details:

  • "Shrek the Musical," Nov. 27 to Dec. 2. Here's the synopsis from Broadway Series South's website: Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, [the musical] brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life on stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.
Tickets will be between $21 and $76 depending on performance days and seating. Individual tickets will go on sale Sept. 10.
  • "Scooby Doo! Live Musical Mysteries" will run Jan. 25 to Jan. 27. Tickets range in price from $14 to $67. Tickets go on sale Sept. 21.
  • Broadway Series South's season also includes "Catch Me If You Can," "Nerds," "Monty Python's Spamalot," "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "Altar Boyz."
