Police identify, seek suspect in deadly Fayetteville shooting

Two people were hospitalized and another taken into custody following a Monday evening shooting in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police have obtained warrants for a man they believe is responsible for a Monday shooting that left one dead and another injured.

David Soles, 49, of the 600 block of Farrell Avenue is wanted on charges of second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Authorities said Tuesday that they are seeking public assistance in locating Soles.

Fayetteville police said officers responded to a shooting at 1031 Cedar Creek Road at about 6:20 p.m.

Detectives said Henry Mert Porter, 66, and Henry Mert Porter Jr., 40, both of Fayetteville, were shot during an argument with David Soles, 49, also of Fayetteville. Henry Mert Porter died from his injuries, police said. Henry Mert Porter Jr. was being treated for his injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m.

Soles was not injured during the incident.
