GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two people were killed Sunday in a crash on Interstate 85 between Rock Creek Dairy Road and Mount Hope Church Road in Guilford County.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. while two vehicles were parked on the left emergency shoulder waiting for a tow truck. One vehicle had broken down on I-85 southbound, and the occupants of the second vehicle had stopped to help.

A third vehicle traveling south veered off the left side of the roadway and struck the two parked vehicles.

All three vehicles caught on fire. The Associated Press confirmed that both drivers were sitting inside the second car when the accident occurred.

The driver of the third car, Jose Euzondo-Balderas, 19, arrested and taken to the Guilford County jail. At his first court apperance Monday, his bond was raised from $60,000 to $1 million.

Prosecutors told Balderas that he could face more serious charges than involuntary manslaughter.

Troopers believe Balderas is in the country illegally and has been living in Washington, N.C., for seven to eight months, said Trooper K. Kutzer with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Balderas is facing several charges, including DWI, consuming alcohol underage, no operator's license, careless and reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and two counts of involuntary manslaughter. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Troopers have not released the names of man and woman killed in the crash but said they were both 17 years old and hailed from High Point.
