FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One man was killed Thursday in a three-car wreck on Ramsey Street in front of the Veterans Administration hospital, police said.

A Nissan Pathfinder crossed the center line at about 11:15 a.m. and collided head-on with a Ford Escort, killing the driver of the Escort, Shawn T. Chance, 25, of 1644 Kara Court, police said.

A Chevrolet Corsica collided with the Escort after the Pathfinder hit it, police said.

The driver of the Pathfinder, Matthew Desessa, 20, of 1118 W. Rowan St., Apt. B, and the driver of the Corsica, Kimberly Watkins, 42, of 636 Tokay Drive, were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

Southbound and northbound lanes of Ramsey Street were closed near the intersection with Cochran Avenue while police investigated the wreck.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation.

That was the second fatal wreck in Fayetteville in about 12 hours, police said.

Late Wednesday, a motorcycle ran a stoplight at the intersection of Skibo Road and Campground Road and was struck by a Ford Explorer, police said.

The motorcyclist, Kenneth E. Geter, 34, of 1787 Shirley Court, was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the Explorer, Antiwainet Carr, of 381 Summerhill Road, didn't require medical attention, police said.
