2 Die in Separate Wrecks in Fayetteville

Two people were killed Thursday and a third was seriously injured in separate traffic accidents, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two people were killed Thursday and a third was seriously injured in separate traffic accidents, police said.

Rita K. Jones, 53, of 405 Fleishman St., was walking in the road on Bragg Boulevard near Clover Street at about 7:45 p.m. when she was struck by a Dodge Dakota driven by William Brown, 65, of 438 Hallmark St., police said.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation.

About four hours later, a Hyundai ran off southbound Raeford Road, struck a guardrail and came to rest in a ravine, police said.

The driver, Ryan W. Morris, 22, of 256 Briar Hill Road in Raeford, died at the scene, and his passenger, Sabrina N. Strouth, 24, of 6209 Halkberry Drive in Hope Mills, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with serious injuries, police said.

There was no word on her condition Friday morning.
