The Town of Elm City is located in Wilson County in eastern North Carolina.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence in September 2018, Wilson County experienced a short-lived tornado which touched down in southwest Elm City. Many homes were damaged and trees were downed in the community.

SHE'S LIVED IN THE TOWN OF JUST OVER 1000 SINCE 2006, WHEN I FIRST MOVED, I HEARD THE MORE THAT WAS NOT GOOD. EVERYONE HERE KNOWS YOU DON'T DRINK THE TAP WATER. WE NEVER DRINK THE TAP WATER SAFE AND BEING HERE AND THAT'S BEEN NEARLY 18 YEARS. ATTKISSON SAYS SHE GETS A NOTICE LIKE THIS ON HER DOOR A COUPLE TIMES A YEAR LETTING HER KNOW THE WATER HAS HIGH LEVELS OF THE CLEANING BYPRODUCT, CHEMICAL THAT COULD CAUSE CANCER. ORDER IS IT'S LIKE BUYING A LOAF. AGREE. IT MAY HAVE. SHE'S BOUGHT ONE CASE A WEEK SINCE SHE MOVED HERE, ADDING UP TO NEARLY 1000 CASES OVER TIME. BUT THERE IS SOME YOU SAY SHE CAN'T AVOID. YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU STANDING AND BATHROOM SAYING YOU'RE BRUSHING YOUR TEETH AND YOU'RE LIKE, THIS IS THE SAME ORDER THAT WE DON'T DRINK. >> THE PROBLEMS STARTED LONG BEFORE MAYOR TO WANDA MOORE WAS ELECTED AS A COMMISSIONER IN 2019, HE WOULD HAVE CITIZENS THAT WOULD COME IN CONSTANTLY. >> WITH WATER IN GLASSES WITH GROUNDWATER. MOORE SAYS SHE'S WORKING WITH A TOWN ENGINEER TO FIND WAYS TO REPLACE THE AGING INFRASTRUCTURE THEY THINK LED TO THE WATER QUALITY ISSUES. IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE KEEP OUR FACILITIES UP TODAY.
