RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police said that a 17-year-old woman intentionally drove her Chevy Impala into a group of people early last Monday.

Brianna Laverne Lane, 17, of 4904 Alenja Lane, was arrested Saturday and charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of hit-and-run, police said.

The incident happened July 27 at about 3 a.m. along the 200 block of Shelden Drive.

Shelby Smith, 19, of Garner, was hit by the car and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The other four victims were not injured.

The crime is not believed to be a random act, and Smith and Lane appear to have been somewhat acquainted, police said.

Lane was being held Sunday in the Wake County Jail under a $60,000 bond.
